Kicau-Bilau is a musical duo from Malaysia consisting of two members, Ngerfan on guitar and Jihan on angklung.In addition to their performances, they create audio-reactive visuals that enhance their shows, providing a multi-sensory experience for their audience.
How
Musically:Kicau-Bilau plays improvisational music, creating spontaneous performances. Each show is unique as Ngerfan and Jihan lets their musical intuition guide them as they explore different rhythms and harmonies. This approach allows them to experiment in real-time, ensuring that no two performances are ever alike.Visually:In processes they call Lakar-Umbi (illustrating) and Tingkah-Lagu (animating), they create intricate layers of digital illustrations that thematically complements the soundscape. Then each layer is arranged and programmed to respond dynamically to the volume, tone, and frequency of each instrument.

Kicau-Bilau (from kacau-bilau):"Kicau", meaning chirp, stands for the order and flow of harmony, while "Bilau" represents the unpredictable and spontaneous nature of life. This mirrors the dynamic interplay that defines human experience.Lakar-Umbi (from akar-umbi):"Lakar" is the act of sketching or drawing, while "Umbi" symbolises the unseen roots or the foundation that give strength to the final creation.Tingkah-Lagu (from tingkah-laku):"Tingkah" stands for behavior, and "Lagu" represents melody. Combined, it embodies the concept of how movement and rhythm intertwine.
